The project owner will provide this type of bond to municipalities to guarantee the installation of improvements that will typically be dedicated to the public and paid for by the owner.
These are license & permit or compliance bonds, typically required by the State in order to obtain a license.
Sometimes General Contractors won’t require an actual bond; however, they’ll ask you for a “bondability” letter. This letter outlines your single / aggregate limits and lets the GC know that a Surety Company has prequalified you for bonding. We’ll prequalify you annually and prepare a letter for you that can be used through the year. Pre-qualification is based on personal credit and business and personal financials, depending on capacity.
